JD Edwards Release 24 Application Enhancement Highlights

An early Christmas present from Oracle with the announcement of JD Edwards Release 24! As usual, we’re going to dive a bit deeper than Oracle’s marketing version to cover the highlights and enhancements with a little less of the marketing spin, and a little more of the “what’s in it for me” approach, kicking off with enhancements to Procurement:

JD Edwards Procurement in Release 24

A process flow model has been provided for the Requisition to Receipt process. This process flow model combines E-One pages and watchlists which can show data in context at each step in the requisition to receipt process. You can also link out to additional detailed process flows, charts, and graphs.

More flexibility has been added that allows you to avoid re-opening a requisition order when a Purchase Order line is cancelled during receipt.

Also, you can now be automatically notified when a different level break can be achieved by increasing a quantity ordered by a specific percentage while entering a purchase order. This type of notification is designed to maximise opportunities to reduce item costs for your organisation.

For customers using the Advanced Pricing module there is now a Standalone Check Price, which allows customers to review line level adjustments in standalone mode at any point in time in the procurement process.

Release 24 Financials Module Enhancements

In the JDE Financials module there is now the ability to view details of vouchers, associated with Purchase Orders, from the Account Ledger Program. Users can now drill down to the details of a voucher that is associated with a purchase order, and drill down to voucher match reversal for a voucher associated with a purchase order, reducing the time it takes to view voucher details from account ledger.

There is improved flexibility when it comes to defining the default document type for journal entry.

The Joint Venture Parent Business Unit is now included in Business Units and Job Master programs.

A new program for the review of the Asset and Maintenance costs has been introduced. This program provides improved and accurate data for asset cost analysis.

Improved Resource Management Function in JDE Capital Asset Management

Resource Managers may notice improved access to necessary data with additional filters and improvements to their ability to tailor tables by rearranging data and incorporating additional columns. Capital Asset Management also improved the resource assignment functionality, giving the option to update the work order start date when the resource assignment for that order is rescheduled, and the option to remove resource assignments when a work order is cancelled.

JD Edwards Manufacturing Continues to Deliver Enhancements

Possibly the most enhanced module since the rollout of 9.2, JD Edwards Manufacturing has two new enhancements in this release, the Automatic Service or Equipment Work Order Routing Attachment Through ETO Project Workbench and OCI AI/ML Accelerator.

Service or Equipment Work Order routings can now be automatically attached when the work orders are created through the ETO Project Workbench, eliminating extra user steps that were required prior to this enhancement.

And an AI (ML) accelerator for those on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, which provides a jump-start to customers looking to leverage AI or machine learning to identify patterns and correlations.

Inventory Management in JD Edwards R24

There have also been enhancements to inventory planning with the introduction of automated safety stock population, where the safety stock level is calculated by your system. Calculations are determined by the end user, who has a choice of 3 values; Buyers guide formula; specified days of demand; or specified percentage of lead time demand; all of which can be trialled in proof mode before being rolled out.

This new functionality is designed to reduce the likelihood of stock outs or other disruptions when there are fluctuations in supply and demand.

Another new feature is the ability to allow inventory locations to be put on hold. Oracle use the example of what happens when rain comes through a hole in your warehouse roof and damages stock in the middle of your warehouse. A location hold takes precedence over lot status – so if your roof does blow a leak you can put the whole location on hold so that you don’t accidentally ship out damaged goods to customers.

Enhancing Grower Blend Management & Logistics Modules

Last, but not least, we consider the enhancements made to the Grower Blend Management and Logistics modules in JD Edwards Release 24.

In Logistics, the Shipment to Dispatch process has had the same treatment as Procurement’s Requisition to Receipt process, with combined watchlists and E-one pages delivering a process flow model that can show data in context and link additional items.

While Grower Blend Management has improved traceability in wine making procedures, so you can keep track of things like additives and consumable items for a wine lot as it travels from the vineyard to bottle to table, while also simplifying the reconciliation of Blend Accounting against the General Ledger.
